The present band reformed in 1990 when a small group of players started rehearsing in a band members cellar. A few years later the band became aware that the local village hall in Stapehill was available for rehearsals and came with storage facilities. Since 1994 this has been our home and is located a short distance from the A31 Wimborne by pass near the Canford Bottom Roundabout.
Locally the band plays at the Bournemouth Bandstand, Southbourne Bandstand, Christchurch Quay, Kingston Lacy (N.T), Poole Park, Stapehill Abbey, Ellingham Show and pubs like the St. Peters Finger in Lytchet Minster as well as many others. Indoor locations have included Poole Arts Centre’s Wessex Hall, The Tivoli Theatre in Wimborne, The Layard Theatre in Canford, The Barrington Theatre in Ferndown, Kinson Community Centre, Wimborne Minster and Stapehill Abbey.
The Musicians are drawn from all walks of life, ranging from Students, Finance, Administration to Letting Agents and Tradesmen to name a few and some of the Band have retired. We have performed concerts with male voice choirs, barbershop choruses, organists, school wind-bands, and a big band, all of which were organised and presented by the Ferndown Concert Brass over the last few years.
In 2002, the Golden Jubilee Year of Queen Elizabeth II, we are proud to have been asked to play in the celebrations for the towns of Bournemouth, Wimborne and Ferndown
The Band plays a wide variety of Music, ranging from Traditional Brass Band to Pop, Swing, Jazz, Film & TV, Musicals and most other Genres in between. In a typical Concert, there will be something for everyone. We also provide Music for Christmas too, ranging from a small ensemble to the power of the full Band and each Christmas, the Band is fully booked for engagements over the Festive Period. Many Members of the Band play with other Local Bands, so adapting to different styles of Music is something the Band are able to do and do very well!
Very occasionally the band competes against other bands. Although this is not our prime objective we have been successful in the past, notably in 1998 when we played at the Marlborough Festival of Brass in an entertainment contest where we were placed second overall and won the most entertaining programme presented.
In the last few years, the Band has taken a new direction, concentrating on Public performances and representing the Town of Ferndown, with great success. The Band is a “People Friendly Band”, interacting with the Audience by encouraging them to become “part of the Band” rather than an Audience. This has led to large amounts of good feedback commenting on how friendly the Band is and how enjoyable the Concert was. The Band also provides Music for many local Charity events. In some cases, the Band waiver their fee in order for the Charity to gain maximum funds.
The main focus of the Band is to provide Music for the Public for all occasions. Whatever the occasion, whatever the circumstance, they’re happy playing good Music and entertaining everyone!
