Musical Director

Born into a musical family, Louis started playing percussion aged 9 with the Dolphin Marching Band in Poole. It was here where he realised that music would be his vocation in life. With the Dolphins, Louis took part in fetes, carnivals, county shows and contests all across the UK and parts of Europe. After 2 years with the Dolphins, he moved to the Peninsula Marching Band from Bournemouth, one of the top youth marching bands in the country, as principal cornet. Whilst with Peninsula, he again, participated in carnivals, shows and contests and also represented the band in the National Youth Marching Band Solo finals 2 years in a row, with great success. After his tenure with Peninsula, Louis moved to Splitz Show Corps in Christchurch, going back to percussion. This was Louis’ most successful band, picking up a large number of awards and being a part of one of the most successful percussion sections in British youth band history. It was in Splitz where Louis started his life-long passion for Drum & Bugle Corps!

Louis also played Cornet in his School Band, Oakmead, where he rose though the Ranks of the Band, culminating in him becoming Principal Cornet in his final year. Louis is especially proud to hold this honour. Other Brass Bands he’s played with are Ringwood and Burley Band, Downton Band and Woodfalls Band.

In his time of making music, Louis has been honoured to perform at a number of high profile engagements, including Jersey Battle of Flowers, Guernsey Liberation Day Celebrations, the 100th Anniversary of the Ideal Home Exhibition, London Lord Mayors Parade, has represented Great Britain at Les Follies de Bin Bin, an international event in France and has been a British Marching Band Championship Finalist 9 times. Louis has also appeared on BBC Television and Radio, ITV and Channel 4 Television. He has performed for members of the Royal Family. Louis has also worked with some of the finest Musicians in the World including Steve Sykes, Richard Marshall, David Thornton, Bob Anderson, Martin Ellerby, Steven Mead, Dr. Howard Evans and Dr. Nicholas Childs, however, one particular Musician stands out for Louis, as he was lucky enough to meet one of his idols, Maynard Ferguson, at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London, just before Ferguson passed away.

In terms of leading bands, Ferndown Concert Brass is his first band. He has however been a percussion section instructor for Splitz and Poole Sea Cadets. Louis had the greatest success with Poole Sea Cadets, with the Drum-Line being presented with 4 Royal Marines Snare Drums, by the Sea Cadet Corps, for their personal use.

Louis now plays trumpet with the Bournemouth Carnival Band, under the direction of his father, Dean. When he is not playing music, Louis likes to follow most sports including AFC Bournemouth and Poole Pirates speedway and he is a keen member of Poole Salvation Army. In the summer of 2011, Louis achieved a Lifetime Ambition where he went to Indianapolis, USA to watch the World Drum & Bugle Corps World Championships.
